2017
Though the calendar adds a digit to the end of the year designation,
most years just are more of the same. Some people make resolutions and have not
kept most of them by the end of January. Some people seriously take stock of
where they are and where they want to be and make one or more significant life
changes (lose serious weight, stop smoking, get help for an emotional issue,
change to a job they really enjoy - even if pay is not as much and the list goes
on). For Purple Power Equine Services 2017 will mean some of both.
Continuing in 2017:
1.Trainers'
Exam Prep Classes will continue with the first scheduled class our
17th Trainers' Exam Prep Class at Lone Star Park April 5-7
(immediately followingTexas 2-year old sale on April 4).

your spot (limited to 12) and save $50 on tuition on this year's class.
2. Groom Elite Classes. I will continue to be lead
instructor for Groom Elite around the country starting with Groom Elite 101 and
201 at Gulfstream Park in January-February 2017. Other programs already
committed in 2017 include the first Basic Grooming 099 in Lexington, Kentucky at
Magdelena Farm (Ken McPeek) April 17-21. (More information available at
www.groomelite.com.) Basic Grooming and Groom Elite 101 will be taught in Canada
at Woodbine and I will go there for assessment and to assist Groom Elite
licensed instructors that will be teaching bulk of classes. Others that have
expressed interest include Mahong Valley, New Mexico, Parx and Prairie Meadows.
3. TOBA Conformation Clinics. I will continue to
present an hour long "Intro to Conformation Analysis" in conjunction with the
TOBA conformation clinics that are held around the country. First clinic in 2017
will be at Gulfstream Park on February 28. Others already committed include
Saratoga in August and Lexington in October. (For more information -
www.toba.org).
4. Second Chances Groom Elite. I will continue to work
with TRF and prisons in South Carolina, Virginia and Illinois and hope to
continue with Indiana and Maryland. I will make teaching and assessment visits
to each prison quarterly or as often as requested by each facility.
5. Consulting. I continue to be available for help
with purchase selections (whether a racing prospect, breeding prospect or
just a riding horse for your child) or to evaulate equine education curiculum
and assist with equine program development.
New for 2017:
1. Trainers' Exam Prep Class schedule. By March 1 of this
year I will have dates established fdor upcoming TExP classes that will include
(in addition to our traditional kick-off class at Lone Star Park) stops in
Kentucky (Spring), Mid-Atlantic (Parx/Delaware/Laurel area in June), Oklahoma
(August), Southwest (Arizona, Southern California - September), Florida
(October), Lexington, KY (November) and South Louisiana (December). Check back
for those dates. Classes will be contingent on getting a minimum enrollment (or
sponsorship).
2. Groom Elite class schedule will include "resident" classes in Kentucky,. At a
minimum we will have two Basic Grooming 099 week-long classes in Lexington, KY
at Magdelena Farm . The first scheduled for April 17-21 and the second in
October (dates TBA). In addition I hope to have one two week Intermediate
Grooming (Groom Elite 101) Certification class in Lexington this summer, late
June to middle of July is the current window being considered.
3. On-line Classes. A major goal for 2017 is to establish a
series of on-line classes thorugh this medium. By cutting back on travel I will
devote that time to providing online opportunities for those unable to travel to
a class. Classes will include practice requirements that can be done locally
(verified by video and evaluation from trainer or owner, etc.) and will
culminate with an on-site "final assessment" clinic. Stay tuned for this
exciting development.
4. Consulting. As I reduce my travel schedule for Groom Elite I
will be more available for assistance in selection of prospects and will add
"evaluation or program" services to training and farm programs.
I will increase awareness of my availability to evaluate academic programs in
Animal and Equine Sciences and continue to work with developing programs in both
the "education sector" as will as privately (local riding programs, "at-risk"
youth programs, equine intervention programs and similar).
5. Help with "problem horse(s)". With our "Quarter-Diamond"
farm now in its second year I will be able to offer "behavior modification"
training for owners with "problem horses", especially new owners of retired
racehorses. Spring/Summer work on facilities at the farm will open a door for
that service in the fall. In the meantime if you have a horse (or more) that you
would like help with, contact us and I'll work something out where I can come to
you.
6. Writing. Many of you have asked me to "write a
book". Well, it's underway. And you ocan follow it's progress by reading
"exerpts" plus other ramblings by following me on
Medium.
